Vals Cape (left) is the prominent point of the island of New Guinea (Indonesia's Irian Jaya) that juts southwest into the Arafura Sea, pointing at Australia. This part of New Guinea is entirely low-lying swampland with very low population The Digul River, snaking across the middle of the view, drains the high mountain chain, which runs along the spine of the island.
