This Earth observation satellite was called Landsat 4 after it was launched on 16th July 1982. It continued to return images of the earth's surface until the early 1990s. Five Landsats were launched between 1972 and 1984 to study the Earth's surface in various spectral bands from the visible to the infrared with a resolution of about 30 metres.
